Wiki info about Marcolin's C.R.42 CN
The CR.42 Falco ("Falcon") fighter had the best speed and handling that a biplane could have and is rightly considered one of the best World War II biplanes. The plane's prototype was "Red 6," with the 377th Independent Squadron of the Italian Air Force, based in Sicily in 1942-43. One flight of CR.42s was included in the Squadron to perform night operations. This Falco was piloted by Captain Luciano Marcolin, a night fighter flight commander who had earlier taken part in the Spanish Civil War and probably destroyed at least five enemy aircraft.
